Directed by French Canadian, Jean-Marc Vallée, this romantic dramatization of the early years of Queen Victoria’s reign is a warm and moving love story. Emily Blunt offers an irresistible, Oscar-worthy performance of the young Queen as she adjusts to her new role as Sovereign. We experience her relationship with her beloved husband, Prince Albert, well played by Rupert Friend, which was truly a love story, despite the fact that it was an arranged marriage for political reasons. Queen Victoria’s mother, the Duchess of Kent, is played by Miranda Richardson, Paul Bettany plays Lord Melbourne and James Broadbent is King William. Set in the 1830’s, this film is exquisitely told through beautiful cinematography, reminiscent of the PBS Masterpiece Theater style and has earned 3 Oscar nominations for art direction, costumes and makeup.
