Animator. Storyman. Troublemaker. Disney Legend. Get ready to be inspired, because we’re rolling out the red carpet for the one and only Floyd Norman—an absolute legend in the animation world! This incredible man is not just any animator; he’s a trailblazer, the first African-American animator at Disney, who continues to shake things up.
At Cameo Cinema, we celebrate stories that matter, and Floyd’s legacy is one for the ages. After the screening, you’ll have the chance to dive into an engaging Q&A session with Floyd himself and the film's producer and co-director Michael Fiore. Michael Fiore is an award-winning NYC-based Producer/Director and the creative force behind Fiore Media Group — a hybrid production company and feature film sales agency.
Michael Fiore – Producer/Co-Director
Driven by a passion for bold, human-centered storytelling, Fiore has produced and directed acclaimed documentaries, including "Veselka: The Rainbow on the Corner at the Center of the World" (Prime), hailed by CNN as a “must-see,” and "Floyd Norman: An Animated Life" (Netflix, HBO Max, TCM, Criterion Channel). Both films were released theatrically across North America and Europe under the Fiore Media Group banner. Fiore is currently producing a follow-up to Netflix’s acclaimed docu-series "Bad Vegan.”
Floyd Norman
His prolific career includes iconic Disney films like Sleeping Beauty and The Jungle Book, and he also contributed to Hanna-Barbera, Pixar's Toy Story 2 and Monsters, Inc. After finishing The Jungle Book, with friend and fellow animator Leo Sullivan, he founded Vignette Films, where they produced six animated films on black history. Recognized with the Disney Legend award in 2007, Norman at 90 years old continues to inspire through his art, mentorship, and advocacy for the arts. Norman is a member of the prestigious Black Filmmakers Hall of Fame and the Society of Illustrators. He is also the recipient of the Special Achievement Award (Legendary Animator) from the African-American Film Critics Association. Today, Norman continues to take on diverse creative roles in and outside of Disney, proving that age is just a number.
So, gather your friends, grab some popcorn, and join us as we honor animation and cultural heritage in film. Let’s make some magic together—your seat is waiting!
