When he pours, he reigns.Cocktail (1988) is beloved as a peak 1980s guilty pleasure, driven by Tom Cruise’s magnetic charisma, stylish showmanship, and a nostalgic soundtrack featuring "Kokomo". It showcases a quintessential "hot shot" rags-to-riches story, featuring flashy bottle-tossing, romance, and iconic, quotable lines about ambition. The film captures the neon-soaked, high-energy atmosphere of the era and turned bartending into a performance art. The choreographed bottle-flipping scenes weren’t in the original script. After Cocktail, all over the world people were doing the Hippy Hippy Shake and smashing bottles of vodka on their kitchen tiles! As one of his early career-defining roles, it highlights his ability to play ambitious, charming characters, cementing his status as the "coolest guy of the 80s".
About Jeremy:
Jeremy Buck started his hospitality career in the restaurants and hotels of downtown Charleston over 20 years ago. Since then he has gone on to work in every kind of establishment from dive to fine dining from California to Boston and New York, and internationally. He has spent over a decade in craft cocktails. After training and working with the best and brightest in the NYC craft cocktail scene, while also developing and running his own programs for nearly a decade, Jeremy ventured out into the international bartending community. He then designed, implemented, and ran a first it’s kind cocktail program in Mumbai, India that was nominated for best in India and landed on places to watch for 50Best. After guest appearances and master classes in Delhi, and Hong Kong, Jeremy returned to where it all started in Charleston to open his first restaurant, Coterie. The restaurant embodies the essence of coming together to share unique perspectives with a vibrant intersection of food, drink, people, and ideas in an artistic and comfortable atmosphere.
